ConceptD 7 Ezel and Ezel Pro are the latest additions to the creator-focused Concept D series of laptops that Acer unveiled in 2019. Just like their predecessors, these models are spiced with A-grade internals and extra flexibility to steal the attention of digital artists. A key feature to highlight here is the easel-inspired 4k display; it swivels at two pivot points, allowing the artist to use the laptop in several orientations.

Before we comment on the hinge mechanism, it’s important to point out that the only difference between the ConceptD 7 Ezel and ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro is their internal specifications.
ConceptD 7 Ezel
The ConceptD 7 Ezel supports up to 10th-gen Intel Core H-series CPUs and NVidia RTX 2070 or 2080 GPU. H-series processors and GeForce RTX GPUs are specifically designed for content creators and enthusiast gamers. So this notebook is configured with the artist in mind.
At CES 2020, Intel said the upcoming H-series chips would deliver peak speeds of up to 5 GHz, which is impressive by today’s standards. Merging this power with that of the mighty RTX 2080 turns the concept 7 Ezel into a powerful laptop that shines in virtually every graphics task.
ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro
The Ezel Pro takes things to the max with workstation-class Xeon E CPUs and the NVidia Quadro RTX 5000 GPU. This CPU-GPU combination is one of the best in the notebook market today.
Xeon processors and Quadro GPUs are purposely built for professionals who rely on complex simulations to create.
A standard Xeon laptop CPU comes with six cores and hyper-threading technology to accelerate multitasking. It also supports ECC memory, which automatically detects and corrects common data corruption errors that occur during workflows.
The Quadro RTX 5000 is the fastest laptop GPU in the market as of now. It comes with 16GB of memory onboard – a huge plus for users who require large VRAM to run professional applications.
Display
Both models feature a 15.6-inch Pantone-validated 4k touchscreen with 400-nits of brightness and remarkable color accuracy (Delta E <2). The display supports 100% Adobe RGB color gamut, making it more worthwhile for creators.

A 15-inch display may not the ideal size of a screen for artists, but that is something you have to give up for extra portability.
Ports
In each product, you’re getting two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, a single DisplayPort 1.4, and an SD card slot.
The presence of thunderbolt 3 means you can daisy-chain cables to drive multiple 4K screens at once, in case you want to extend your display to external monitors.
Thunderbolt 3 is the king of file transfer speeds. So you can rest assured that it won’t take you days to copy large projects to your external SSD.
ConceptD 7 Ezel Aero Hinge
It’s not the first time the Ezel Aero Hinge is showing up in Acer’s products. This unique pivot mechanism is also present in the Predator Triton 900 and Concept D 9.

The basic workings of the hinge are the same in the ConceptD 7 Ezel models. However, the new additions come with a more refined design that’s less obstructive and bulky.
Two pivot points of rotation give the display greater room of movement so that the artist can use the laptop in various orientations – You can hover the screen above the keyboard, slant it like a laptop, swivel it all the way to enter tablet mode, or even angle it like an artist’s easel.

Indeed, the workings of the Ezel Aero Hinge bring to mind the value of an easel. Why does an artist draw on an easel instead of a flat desk? Some answers to this question would be: to improve posture, increase drawing speed, and to avoid effects of perspective.
To complete the artist’s package, Acer included support for a Wacom EMR pen, which also happens to have its own slot in the laptop casing.

Bonus
ConceptD 7 Ezel and ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro are NVIDIA RTX Studio certified. Having the RTX Studio badge indicates that these laptops can exploit NVIDIA’s specialized drivers and SDKs to optimize the performance of creative applications.
To Sum up
The easel-inspired hinge system is one of the reasons why the ConceptD 7 Ezel and ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro stand out. But even granting it as a gimmick, the internals of these uniquely-designed laptops speak for themselves.
With great power comes colossal damage to your bank account. The standard model will set you back $2699, while the Pro edition will cost $3,099.
