Are you a WhatsApp user who likes to multitask across several devices? I bet you’ve been longing for multi-device support.

Up until this point, WhatsApp has not been kind enough to support multiple devices. The app does not allow users to log in a single account from two or more phones.

However, it looks like that could change soon. According to a report from Wabetainfo, Whatsapp is developing a new feature that will let you use a single number/account with different devices at the same time. The specific update that we are talking about is 2.2.196.8. Developers at WhatsApp have already submitted the update through the Google Play Beta Program.

The screenshots below were shared by Wabetainfo to verify the claims. The photos show a fresh “linked devices” option from where users will manage their devices.

As for the number of devices, the report alleges that WhatsApp is testing multi-device support for a total of four units. That’s a reasonable number as very few people would consider multitasking across more devices.

 WhatsApp on Emulator and Phone

One specific area where multi-device support will be particularly handy is Android emulation.

Support for many devices means you can run WhatsApp on an emulator without getting logged out of your phone. It also means you don’t have to go through the hassle of resetting your account each time you want to switch to emulation.

WhatsApp on MSI App Player

As of now, those who wish to use WhatsApp on their Android emulator and phone simultaneously are out of luck. They can only do so by logging in different accounts.

Multi-device support for WhatsApp will definitely be worthwhile, but we have to wait for it to be officially launched.
